About 1000 Little Things
The Story Behind the Site
Hi, I'm Joseph Adam, and I created 1000 Little Things because I kept finding myself in the same conversation over and over again. You know the one — a friend says something like, “You know what I love? When you peel a sticker off perfectly in one piece.” And suddenly everyone at the table starts nodding and adding their own tiny favorites.
I realized that these little moments — the ones we all experience but rarely talk about — are actually a shared human language. They cross cultures, ages, and backgrounds. Everyone knows the feeling of sliding into fresh sheets, hearing rain on a tin roof, or finding money in a jacket you haven't worn in months.

I wanted to build a single place where all of these small joys could live together — organized, searchable, and easy to share. That's how 1000 Little Things was born.
The Philosophy
There's a well-documented body of research in positive psychology showing that gratitude practices — even simple ones like noticing small pleasures — can meaningfully improve well-being. Studies from researchers like Robert Emmons and Martin Seligman have found that people who regularly practice gratitude report higher levels of positive emotion, stronger social connections, and even better physical health.
But this site isn't meant to be clinical or academic. It's meant to be a gentle nudge — a reminder that happiness isn't always found in grand achievements or major life events. Often, it's right there in the ordinary moments we rush past without noticing.

Think of 1000 Little Things as a catalog of life's background music — the stuff that's always playing if you take a moment to listen.
How the Content Is Curated
The 1,000 items on this site were carefully selected and organized into 19 categories, ranging from Comfort and Connection to Nature, Food, and Achievement. Each item was chosen based on a few simple criteria:
- Universality: Can most people relate to this experience? The best items are the ones that make someone say, “Oh yes, I love that!”
- Specificity: Is the description vivid enough to actually conjure the feeling? “Being happy” is too vague. “The first sip of coffee in the morning” paints a picture.
- Positivity: Every item should evoke a genuine sense of warmth, comfort, delight, or satisfaction.
- Diversity: The collection spans sensory experiences, social moments, solo reflections, seasonal pleasures, and acts of kindness.
I drew inspiration from years of reading, listening, and collecting — from conversations with friends, from books on mindfulness and positive psychology, and from the broader community of people who celebrate the small stuff.

Standing on the Shoulders of Giants
The idea that small things matter isn't new, and I'm grateful to the creators and writers who paved the way:
- Neil Pasricha started the blog 1000 Awesome Things in 2008, which became a worldwide phenomenon and spawned the Book of Awesome series. His work was a direct inspiration for this project.
- Nancy (Just Little Things) created the beloved Tumblr blog “Just Little Things” around 2011, which resonated deeply with millions of people who found comfort in its poetic, relatable posts.
- Marc & Angel Chernoff authored “1,000 Little Things Happy Successful People Do Differently,” a bestselling book that combines practical wisdom with an appreciation for life's small moments. Their work bridges the gap between personal development and everyday gratitude.
1000 Little Things is my contribution to this tradition — a digital-first, searchable collection designed for how people discover and share content today.
What Makes This Site Different
While there are many wonderful lists and books about little things, I wanted to create something that took advantage of what the web does best: organization, searchability, and community.
Every item here is categorized, searchable, and bookmarkable. You can filter by mood, browse by category, or just let the collection surprise you. I've also included guides on the TikTok trend that brought “1000 little things” to a new generation, as well as a history section tracing the idea back to its Tumblr and blog roots.
